The 2nd Best Western Country Tour on Sunday 19th August started with a very over cast morning. Some early birds arrived to help set up the Yeovil Car Club pitch and were greeted by tea, coffee and bacon rolls by Mark Tobin, the manager of The Swan Hotel, Wells. Stan and Ann Morris, along with Sharon and Alan Miller soon had things organised, with members arriving and parking up on the magnificent Cathedral Green outside Wells Cathedral.
Lots of members of the public took an interest in the cars, and plenty of questions were asked, and then the sun shone and the cars sparkled. Joining Yeovil Car Club on the run was the Mayor of Wells, Celia Wride and her daughter Sarah the Mayoress, who waved us off at the start and then jumped in their VW Beetle and joined in the fun.
Soon everyone was whizzing around the countryside, all going in different directions despite a route map – but that’s what makes it so entertaining! We went from Wells to Wedmore, over Berhill, through Somerton, Long Sutton and eventually into Ilminster, to our destination, The Shrubbery Hotel.
Lunch was a 2 course carvery with tea and coffee, and the club was looked after superbly well by all the staff and manager Simon McBride.
Yeovil Car Club would like to thank the Swan Hotel in Wells and the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster for their continued generosity in supporting this event.
